He journeyed all over Europe trading glass, travelling as far as Spain and Portugal. The earnings from the business justified the long, arduous and dangerous travels. JOHANN CARL RIEDEL(2nd Generation) Johann Carl Riedel, 2nd generation (1701-1781) was a gilder and glasscutter. He operated his own workshop refining glassware.
