In 2018, RIEDEL debuted into the world of cocktail glassware with the impressive Drink Specific Glassware collection. Here we explain the expertise behind the series, how they improve the customer experience, and the different cocktail glasses included.
All the ingredients for a perfect partnership
A peek at a successful bar will show you that any professional worth their margarita salt offers their customers specific glasses catering to different cocktail styles. It isn't just about presentation: there are numerous practical reasons to support stocking a varied collection of bar glasses.
RIEDEL collaborated with North American Spirits Specialist Zane Harris to create a definitive collection of cocktail glasses for every bar. Zane attended a Sensory Tasting for wine with Georg Riedel. He approached 10th generation Georg and expressed his wonder at the functionality of RIEDEL's Grape Varietal Specific glasses, asserting that cocktails followed a similar principle and he would love to support their design.
What sets drink specific glassware apart from other barware?
The Drink Specific Glassware provides the ideal products for hundreds of variations on classic cocktails. RIEDEL has created each product considering its size, shape, and volume. The collection takes into account each cocktail's ingredients, method, the state and structure of the finished cocktail, whether it's shaken or stirred, and whether it includes ice.
This concept had never previously been explored by a glassware brand in its totality, allowing venues to furnish their bars with one glassware set that perfectly presents an endless number of cocktails.
Why is size & shape important for cocktails?
Cocktail glassware presents one significant complication in contrast to wine: the use of ice. With high-quality decorative ice or large format ice becoming increasingly popular, it was an important consideration when designing this collection.
Ice is a necessary element in many classic drinks but will not stack efficiently in a poorly constructed glass and alter the customer's perception of value. If only one cube fits on the bottom of a Rocks glass or they stack haphazardly in a Highball, the wash line or liquid level can appear lower leading customers to believe they are being under-served. Our Drink Specific Glassware tumblers have been designed to the millimetre in both height and width, led by your customer's perception of value and visual appeal.
Our Highball and Fizz glasses' efficient design also ensures that you no longer need to source and stock straws in your venue. Doing away with this one-use plastic will positively impact both the environment and your bottom line.
Designed for straight spirits or neat drinks, this glass is the perfect size to be cradled comfortably in any customer's hand. Proportionally smaller than the Rocks glass, the Neat glass is perceived as generous when served with neat spirits and cocktails, and includes a 60ml / 2 fl. oz. pour line as part of its intelligent design.
- Height: 77 mm / 3 inch
