JANUARY 2019, Glassware innovator, Riedel, has added a new Sauvignon Blanc Glass to its iconic Performance Collection.
Since its launch in 2018, Riedel Performance, the technologically advanced and user-friendly collection of varietal-specific glassware, has astounded professionals and consumers alike with its “optic impact” and performance. This year will see a new glass added to the collection:
“Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most popular grape varieties in the world. In a workshop with Styrian Classic winemakers we learned that wines are becoming increasingly concentrated. So they need glasses with larger volumes to develop optimally. The logical step for us was to add the goblet shape to our Riedel Performance series,” Maximilian J. Riedel explains.
Riedel has conducted a number of studies on flavour, aroma and colour of wines, with the aim of offering an even more intensive experience of wine enjoyment. The tests showed that a larger inner surface area of the glass has a positive effect on the perception of the bouquet and aroma of the wine. This is what the unique optic effect achieves. Not only does it add a pleasing visual aspect to the bowl, but it also increases its inner surface area, allowing the wine to open up and to fully develop its aroma, with all of its subtle nuances.
Riedel Performance glasses are executed in sparkling crystal glass and feature fine stems as well as stable bases. As of 2019 they are available in seven varietal-specific shapes: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling/Green Veltliner, Chardonnay, Champagne, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Merlot and Syrah/Shiraz. The Riedel Performance series is machine made and dishwasher safe.
