Cahors is a small town located towards the southwest of France, best known for its red Appellation d'origine contrôlée wines for which the Malbec grape must make up at least 70%. Red wines from this area are deeply coloured and are often referred to as 'black'. The region is relatively warm and dry compared to nearby Bordeaux, which increases the concentration of sugar in the grapes
